OMG! The hit musical Legally Blonde will bounce onto the stage in Northbrook, and auditions are scheduled for Wednesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 6 from 4-6pm at the , 3323 Walters Avenue.

Auditions are open to boys and girls in grades 6-10 and include acting, dancing and singing. The award-winning Northbrook Theatre Children's Company has presented theatre by youth for youth for more than 30 years and is pleased to kick off the 2012-13 Children’s Theatre season with the pop musical.

Based on the novel and award-winning film of the same name, Legally Blonde is a romantic comedy about a ditzy blonde sorority girl from California who tries to be taken seriously at Harvard Law School.

“The show has a variety of good, strong roles for boys and girls and can provide them with an outstanding theatrical experience,” says Gregg Dennhardt, Performing Arts Manager for the Northbrook Park District, the producing organization.

For the acting audition, students will receive scenes from the script, reading partners and time to rehearse. For the dance audition, they will learn and perform a short routine in the style of the show. They also need a prepared song and sheet music in the proper key for piano accompaniment. Students should wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes for dancing.

“The Children’s Company is a place to have fun, learn about the theatre and teamwork, and learn to communicate and overcome the fear of getting up and expressing yourself in front of large groups of people,” Dennhardt adds. “Residents and non-residents are welcome to audition for the cast."

The young actors who are chosen for the cast will pay a $285 participation fee ($275 for Northbrook Park District residents) to help offset production costs. Rehearsals begin on Sunday, September 11, and performances are in December.
