A three-story building on Ballantrae Drive caught fire Monday evening. All residents were able to get out safely.

Northbrook Communications Manager Cheryl Fayne sent the following information in an email Tuesday morning:

On July 1 around 6:30 pm, Northbrook firefighters responded to a fire in a three flat condominium at 620 Ballantrae Drive.

Firefighters reported fire in the walls at the 3rd floor balcony.  The three unit building was evacuated and searched for occupants.  The fire quickly spread into the mansard roof and the third floor was engulfed in flames.

Five people were displaced due to the fire, and all made arrangements to stay elsewhere for the evening.  The Association management company arranged to secure the building.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Northbrook Fire Investigators.  There were no injuries, but the building and contents sustained an estimated $1,000,000 loss.
