Daily Deal App Roundup

Which deal apps to you prefer? Shopping for gifts online, just in time for Valentine's Day.

I'm a sucker for deal sites, apps and email lists.

Do I really need half off of $16 in comic books, a Valentine's Day gift of a photography class, discount movie tickets and an absolute steal on a service that will convert my Hi8 videos into DVDs?

The answer is yes. (Or, mostly yes. I have still have to find my Hi8 video cassettes.)

Right now, there's a huge market for daily deal apps, so this week I'm offering  quick-hit reviews of apps currently on my iPhone. And, I'm asking our readers: Which apps do you use and why?

Groupon ...is the 800-lb gorilla in the room, and with good reason. The app is easy to use, connects with my credit card and keeps track of my coupons. The quality of the deals themselves vary, but I still check it almost every day.

kgb Deals This service has become my latest obsession, mostly because of the quality of the deals offered. In the last month, I've bought from their photo, travel and electronic offerings. Unfortunately, I'd had to do this exclusively through kgb's email newsletter because the app won't allow me to log in. I even contacted kgb though its "help" section--but no response. Lately, the app won't even load properly, which is frustrating.

LivingSocial Perhaps Groupon's biggest competitor, LivingSocial provides slick, easy navigation and quality deals for restaurants, vacations and other services. Like Groupon, it keeps track of the deals and can show me deals based on my location.

Yipit I gave this app a , and to recap: It's a deal aggregater that helps users find deals by location and subject matter. (It's also how I found kgb Deals).

So: What deal apps do you like? I've downloaded, but have yet to use Deal Drop and DealSquare -- but has anyone else? Let me know in the comments below.

And, if you haven't seen it yet, Patch also has its own deals service.

The nice folks at kgb Deals just reached out to say that the new deploy of their app should fix the problems I've been experiencing, so stay tuned for a full review in a future column.
