Gerhard’s Gears Up for Easter Desserts

The North Shore pastry maker and bakery offers an array of treats to cap off a holiday meal.

When you need that special treat to finish off a holiday meal, a nearly 80-year-old Lake Forest fixture is there for you.

From its egg shaped cake to a special Easter carrot cake, Gerhard’s Elegant European Desserts has a variety of cakes and other pastries ready to help make a meal special. There is also a flourless chocolate cake suitable for Passover, according to owner Mary Greub.

Greub and her husband, Gerhard Greub, have owned the business for the last 18 years after purchasing the former Market Square Pastries. They offer a taste of Europe to shoppers around market square.

“European means less sweet,” Mary Greub said describing what she and her husband believe distinguishes their business. “Chef Gerhard (Greub) is from Switzerland. We provide all natural preservative free European desserts.”

Gerhard’s also offers coffee and other beverages as well as tables for people to enjoy a pastry on the premises. “On Saturday you can’t find a seat,” Mary Greub said.
