UPDATE: Caribou Coffee Pushes Opening To Friday

After signs advertising a Caribou Coffee in the former Northbrook Garage have teased Northbrook coffee-lovers for months, the shop is finally set to open its doors this Friday. 

Located at 1347 Shermer Road in downtown Northbrook, the store will host a grand opening Friday with regular business hours of 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Caribou's official opening was originally set for Thursday, but the company pushed it back to Friday, according to a spokesperson.

The transformation of the building at the southwest corner of Shermer and Meadow roads is in addition to the two other new storefronts, including numerous spacious windows, along the Meadow Road side of the building and will be the latest addition to the village’s downtown development, said David Schoon, economic development coordinator for the village of Northbrook. At least one of those storefronts will hold a Sherwin Williams paint retailer, while the other has yet to be filled, according to Schoon.

The storefronts are designed to attract activity, add more pedestrian-friendly areas to the central business district, and bring “a more downtown sort of feel, meaning storefronts right up against the sidewalk,” said Schoon. In its former iteration as the Northbrook Garage, the eastern side of the building, across from the , had no windows or walkways.

Caribou Coffee hopes the location will attract customers who are visiting the Village Green or commuting from the station nearby.
