Northbrook Doctor Teaches Kids About Divorce
Dr. Leigh Weisz' book, 'Kara Kangaroo's Candy,' is designed to teach young children understand a divorce.
Dr. Leigh Weisz, a Northbrook-based psychologist and affiliate at Northwestern University's Family Institute, has recently published her first book — a picture book written to help young children cope with divorce called Kara Kangaroo's Candy.
When Kara Kangaroo's parents sit her down to announce their divorce, Kara worries her own behavior affected the parents' relationship. Then she vows to never eat candy again.
The book's Amazon description says it can even help very young children understand divorce doesn't have to be a child's fault.

“I found in my work that I would be recommending books to parents, and they would tell me that the books were too simple, or the opposite, they would give so much information that the child wasn’t ready for it,” Weisz told the Northbrook Star.
