Oreo HQ Headed Next Door to Deerfield

When Kraft divides into two companies, the snack foods will be based in Deerfield.

Deerfield will be the new home of Mondelez International, Inc., when divides into two separate companies later this year, according to spokesperson Michael Mitchell.

Mondelez will become the company of brands like Oreo cookies, Maxwell House coffee, Trident gum and Kraft cheeses, while Kraft Foods Group, Inc., will remain at the current Northfield headquarters and be responsible for grocery products.

The move will bring several hundred new jobs to Deerfield, according to Mitchell. The village was chosen for several reasons including infrastructure, access to O’Hare International Airport and convenience to employees and their families.

The company remains in lease negotiations and intends to announce the location in the future. “We’re finalizing lease arrangements,” Mitchell said. “We expect to provide more specific information in the coming weeks.”

One of the people thrilled with the news was who has spent significant time meeting with people at Kraft and other companies learning about local business conditions and needs.

“One of the themes I hear over and over is why this is such a great region to do business and raise a family,” Dold said in a prepared statement. “I know that the community of Deerfield will welcome these new jobs.”

The name Mondelez was coined by Kraft and is meant to evoke the idea of a delicious world, according to a news release. The term "international" was added because of the company’s worldwide reach.

“We wanted to find a new name that could serve as an umbrella for our iconic brands, reinforce the truly global nature of this business and build on our higher purpose – to make today delicious,” Chairman and CEO Irene Rosenfeld said in the release.
