"We're going to be one of the first facilities that allow children and adults to play in, and as they get injured or if something happens, they can walk within the facility and get looked at," Accelerated Center's general manager, Brian Bauer, said at the groundbreaking.

The Accelerated Center will provide a unique destination for youth and adults alike, by offering a diverse platform of sports and child development programming, all designed to improve members' quality of life.

"I remember when this was first presented to the village board and I thought, 'what a great idea,'" Northbrook Village President Sandy Frum said at the groundbreaking. "This will be a place where the youth and the adults can play sports and be in a safe, top of the line facility."

Bauer said a grand opening is tentatively planned for October.
