Walmart Still Interested in North Shore

According to the Better Government Association, Walmart's withdrawal from Northbrook may have been a tactical decision to come back later.

Even though Walmart withdrew their proposal for a Northbrook location along Skokie Boulevard, the Better Government Association called it a tactical retreat for a company still interested in doing business in the area.

"We are very interested in the North Shore and we certainly hope to return to the area," Walmart spokesperson Erica Jones told the BGA. "We identified over 3,000 households in support of the store."

Walmart withdrew a zoning application to construct a 150,000-square-foot superstore at 1000 Skokie Blvd. in November, saying the project would not have been economically feasible if it met all of Northbrook's requirements for the project.

Northbrook's Plan Commission previously turned down Walmart's 1000 Skokie Blvd. proposal during a public input meeting on the development, but welcomed the company to return with a new proposal.
