Yogurt Shop Moving In To Former Quiznos Spot

An international frozen yogurt chain will replace the Quiznos formerly located at Meadow and Shermer roads.

On hot nights this summer, Northbrook residents will have another option when it comes to frosty treats downtown.

In the next few weeks, frozen yogurt chain Yogen Früz is scheduled to open a franchise in the former Quiznos store at Shermer and Meadow roads. With stores in 20 countries around the world, Yogen Früz offers low-fat chocolate and vanilla yogurt as well as fruit, nut and candy toppings that can be blended in.

The village issued the Northbrook franchise a building permit May 3, according to communications manager Cheryl Fayne-dePersio, and the owners picked it up last Thursday.

“One thing you can say about Northbrook is they certainly have great restaurants,” Fayne-dePersio said. She said the storeowners had told the village that the business was set to open in the next three to four weeks, although she wasn’t aware of a specific date.

“I certainly hope by summer, because it would be fun to have a yogurt and an ice cream shop,” she said, referring to the store located across the street from the new Yogen Früz.

Before Yogen Früz, a Quiznos franchise operated in the building at 1350 Shermer Rd. That store closed within the last couple of months, although Fayne-dePersio said the village did not have a record of exactly when it shut its doors.

Because each Quiznos location is an independently owned and operated franchise, the company does not comment on individual store closings, according to a spokesperson for the brand.

"Store closures are determined on a case-by-case basis by individual store owners,” she said.

Franchise owners for the Northbrook Yogen Früz shop could not be reached to confirm the exact date of the store’s opening. Originally founded in 1986 in Toronto, Canada, the company now has more than 1,200 locations across the globe and committed to 400 new locations last year, according to a spokesperson for the brand.
