Dominican Children Loved Receiving Baseball Equipment Donations

Dr. Warren Bruhl recently took donations of baseball equipment to over 100 children in the Domincan Republic. Bruhl is now seeking additinal donations for next trip to Africa!

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Dominican Republic to provide necessary chiropractic care as part of a 40-doctor mission team.  Our goal was to provide 40,000 children, adults, and seniors with the powerful, loving care of chiropractic therapy.  During our visit, we also had the opportunity to provide important donations of clothes, school supplies, and toys for many of the children.

As an extra component to the trip, I initiated a program of delivery for baseball equipment to the impoverished children of the region.  I was fortunate to have received many wonderful donations of used and new equipment and clothing to give these needy children.  One of our most generous donations came from Mr. Rich Synek, of the Glenbrook Sports Academy.  He provided over 1,500 new baseball mitts for our ongoing missions work.

When I visited the Dominican, I was able to take three fully loaded bags carrying nearly 200 new baseball mitts, 25 bats, pants, jerseys, socks, belts, batting gloves, cleats, spikes, and hats.  One of the bags was donated to a coach from Santa Domingo, who needed the equipment so desperately, he was willing to drive over two hours one way just to receive one bag of mostly used equipment.  The other two bags were given to 90 players in Puerta Plata at a small recreational facility in a very poor region of the City.

The looks of joy and excitement on these young boys faces are ones I will never forget.  Moreover, this journey has further inspired my mission, along with several other volunteers to provide additional equipment to the Dominicans and the African nation of Kenya.  I will be traveling to Kenya in November and on this trip, I will be introducing the game of baseball to the Kenyan children for the first time.

As part of our mission work, we are seeking additional donations of equipment and money to fund the ongoing efforts to get equipment to these impoverished children.  We are also formulating a strategy to provide equipment locally as well in the Chicago area and other metropolitan and rural areas.
