GBN Freshman A Baseball Come From Behind to Beat Niles West 12-8 (Improve Record to 10-2)

On a frigid Tuesday evening in Skokie at Niles West, the Freshman A team, looked frozen in the first inning.  Going down 1-2-3 in Spartan half of the inning, Brice Call, started the first Wolf hitter off with a walk and a cold and lethargic defense eventually landed the Spartans down 4-0.  However, as the freshman A players have demonstrated all year, they are resilient and never out of any game.

However, the Niles West pitcher proved to be a formidable opponent through the first 4 innings keeping the ball low in the zone and mixing his pitches well. Nonetheless, the GBN freshman A lineup eventually prevailed and found themselves only down by 2 going into the top half of the sixth inning.  The stage was now set for a dramatic comeback to finally unfold and with two runners on in scoring position, Tedeschi, struck the go ahead blow with a long drive to right that scooted by the right fielder.  Two runs came home and the go ahead run was only 90 feet away.  The go ahead run eventually came across and left the Spartans up 9-8.  Now they only had to hold the Wolves scoreless for six more outs.

Being up to the task tonight, Jared Epstein, had strong control despite the cold and the defense made the plays when they had to down the stretch.  The freshman put across three more runs in the top half of the seventh to go up four and then held on for the win.

While the offense has been the highlight of the year thus far for the GBN Freshman A team, Coach Graham is still looking for the defense to keep other teams from scoring unnecessary runs and giving extra outs.

The freshman travel to Waukegan Thursday and are home Saturday against Lake Forest.
