GBN Freshman-A Baseball Team Rolls Wheeling 11-0 Behind Call's 2-Hit Gem.
From the first pitch it was evident Freshman-A hurler, Brice Call, had his stuff and was going to frustrate the Wheeling hitters in Wednesday night's game. Call breezed through the first inning, sending the Wheeling hitters down 1-2-3. From there, the bats of the freshman squad began to do the talking when leadoff hitter, Sage Bruhl, reached on hit-by-pitch, and Witty singled. Then the big bats of Burnside, Ahern, and Call went to work driving in three runs in the Freshman-A bottom half of the first. The rest of the game was routine and businesslike for Call and the defense as no Wheeling hitter even got past second base.
After the game, Brice Call was collected and confident when asked how he felt. ”I wasn’t even throwing as hard as I could,” he said. Brice is a standout athlete at also serving this year as the starting quarterback on the Freshman- A football team. Brice’s accomplishments in baseball are lengthy up to this point in his career. He played six years on the Northbrook Travel-A team and often batted in the leadoff role. Brice brings those rare combinations together as a baseball player. He has speed, power, and a strong arm.
The Freshman A squad is now 6-1 overall and looks to finish out their week against with a 4:30 P.M. start and on Saturday in Conant with a double header. Game times in Conant will be 10:30 A.M. and 1:00 P.M.
