GBN Freshman A Down Waukegan 16-5, Now Sport an 11-2 Record
The GBN Freshman A group continued their winning ways Thursday in Waukegan with a 16-5 victory. Pitching for GBN, Brandon Labunski, got off to a rough start showing early control trouble but settled down and was able to steer his team in a winning direction. Labunski completed four innings and Harrison Solano came on in relief and pitched well over 2 scoreless innings.
The early power was supplied by Danny Ahern with a 2 run double in the seven run first inning for the Spartans which saw 12 batters come to the plate. Later, poor control and a porous defense for Waukegan made scoring easy in the first two frames of this contest and GBN took full advantage putting 14 runs up over the first three innings.
One of the advantages Coach Ryan Graham has with his squad is the opportunity to give bench players extra playing time in games like this one. In tonights game this also held true as Coach Graham was able to remove several of his starters after the second inning and give other players extra playing time and at bats. In addtion, the luxury of having a very deep pitching staff with 9-10 players who can pitch has given Graham the ability to rest pitchers and give them necessary recuperation time.
