GBN Freshman A lose 8-7 to Deerfield in Extra Innings

GBN Loses tough extra inning game to Deerfield Wednesday night.

Deerfield came with a mission on Wednesday to battle and win against their tough cross-town rival Glenbrook North.  In an exciting and hard fought game, the GBN Freshman A team fell in the eighth inning after battling back from a three run deficit to tie the game in dramatic fashion in the seventh inning.

While the game remained close through the first five innings, Brice Call ran out of gas in the fifth and was taken out for relief pitcher, Brandon Labunski.  Brandon pitched well in the tight spot in which he was placed but gave up one big bases clearing triple that left GBN in a hole.  However, the Freshman A team battles and found themselves with a chance to tie it in the top half of the seventh down one. After Jared Epstein reached first on single and moved to second, Brandon Labunski came to plate and lined a hard double into the left field gap.  Unfortunately, Labunski was stranded at third and unable to help the Spartans take the lead.

Sage Bruhl relieved Labunski in the seventh and he successfully downed the Warriors.  However, the Spartans did not score in their half of the eighth.  In the Warrior eighth, the lead off hitter laced a hard liner down the third base line that was fielded magnificently but an errant throw moved him to second.  He eventually moved to third and with the infield pulled in, the Warriors were able to capitalize and notch a soft liner over the first basemen’s head for the winning run.
