GBN Freshman-A Take Two From Lake Forest on Saturday (Now 13-2 overall)

GBN Freshman-A Take Two From Lake Forest on Saturday (Now 13-2 overall)

Saturday was a real treat for the parents and fans of Glenbrook North Freshman-A baseball as they watched the continued firepower of this team generate back to back wins with eleven and twelve runs respectively.  In the first game, the Spartans attack was lead by Burnside, Bruhl, Tedeschi, and Call.

The scoring in the first game got started when Bruhl drew a walk and then Witty was hit by pitch.  Burnside came up and drove a hard liner to the right field gap for two run triple.  Ahern then singled home Burnside.

In the second, Bruhl singled again and stole second.  Then Burnside singled home Bruhl.  Tedeschi came up and drove Burnside home with hard single.

In the early going of the first game, David Burnside kept the Scout hitters off balance and was supported by excellent outfield defense from Brice Call, Jake Rabin, and Justin Tucker.  Additionally, the infield play of Bruhl and Solano was stellar along with Tedeschi's command of the plate defense.  The defensive play of the Spartans has settled in recent games and is now resuming some of the lustre this group of players had become known for throughout their playing careers in travel ball.

Moving into the third inning the repeating multi-run inning theme was replayed again as Bruhl singled for the second time and Witty followed with the same outcome.  Then Burnside came to plate and drove a ball deep to right center near the fence for his second two-run triple of the game.  Burnside was given a ride home when Tedeschi hit a sky high infield fly that went uncaught by the Scout infield.

The scoring in the fourth helped cap off an 11-1 slaughter rule victory when Call doubled and Labunski singled him home.  Afterwards, Solano singled Labunski home and Bruhl walked.

Only needing to go five in the first game, the Spartans took a short break and resumed play with the Scouts of Lake Forest and quickly took off from the same spot in which they left.  Behind the pitching of Wagner, Bruhl, and Ahern, the Spartans built a 10-3 lead but the Scouts chipped away each inning eventually cutting the gap to two, 10-8.  But that was all the closer they would get as the Spartans added 2 insurance runs in their half of the sixth and Ahern shut the door on the Scouts hopes with a perfect relief outing.

Now the Spartan freshman get ready for New Trier Trevians on Monday.  This is sure to be a strong match up.  The baseball programs welcomes people of the community to come out and support them and see some strong baseball.  In addition, young players are encouraged to come watch the boys for learning purposes.
