GBN Freshman Teams Break Out In Spring Action With 7-2 Start

The Glenbrook North freshman baseball teams began their spring break schedule with a strong 7-2 record.

The 2012 Freshman A and B baseballs squads had a remarkable start to their upcoming season during spring break 2012.  Every year, the GBN baseball teams use the spring break as a tune-up for the season ahead.  While the varsity squad travels to St. Louis for tournament play, the freshman squads and sophomore team play locally.  This year promises to be one of the best for the freshman teams as the A and B squads combined for a 7-2 start in the early going.  The A squad, coached by Mr. Ryan Graham, is loaded with talent and deep in pitching.  When asked about his team this year, Coach Graham had high praise. “They are very coachable and want to learn how to play well,” he said. The B team is equally deep in pitching and power at the plate.

The Freshman A team this year is anchored by a number of standout athletes who play multiple sports at Glenbrook North, including David Burnside, Brice Call, Sage Bruhl, and Matt Tedeschi.  Many of the players have played together since they were in the second grade and they have excellent chemistry.  Other team members on this year’s squad include Danny Ahern, Brandon Labunski, Justin Tucker, Jake Rabin, Robert Stocking, Peter Witty, Adam Wagner, Harrison Solano, Jared Epstein and Sam Nyren.  Freshman B team players filling out this year’s B squad include Pat Hamilton, Garret Cohen, Noah Gafen, Ben Pfaff, Mark Jenkins, Matt Brown, Alex Crane, Jerry Park, Nathan Trelevan, Shane Weintraub, Peter Hinsa, Michael Ferrarese, Peter Koulgeorge, Ankit Patel, Michael Gershuny,  and Michael Collins. The B team is coached by Mr. Jim Howie.

Their early season success has been propelled by a high-octane run-producing gauntlet of hitters along with excellent base running skills.  While their pitching has also been solid at times, there is room to improve on the walks and the mental lapses still taking place.  Moreover, the defensive alignments and execution is still formulating and showing great promise.  Coach Graham feels this could shape up to be a very strong season and looks forward to helping these boys build a strong GBN baseball program.  The Freshman GBN baseball schedule is available online at http://www.glenbrook225.org.

Come out and see the boys play.  It’s great baseball and very inspirational for young players who want to improve their skill and have strong older role models.
