GBN Sophomores Down New Trier Behind Epstein's Dominant Performance
Jared Epstein throws a gem against New Trier to down them 8-1.
On Friday, Glenbrook North and New Trier locked up in a cross town game with the Spartans downing the Trevian blue decisively behind Jared Epstein's pitching gem. Nearly going the distance and striking out eleven over 6 2/3 innings, starting pitcher Jared Epstein pitched one of his most dominant games in his high school career. From the very start of the game, it was evident Epstein had his pitches working, with his devastating fastball and deceptive change up causing Trevian hitters to stumble and miss badly at a plethora of strike threes.
While Epstein was working his mastery from the rubber, the Spartan hitters came ready to play in this game and got things going early as they erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first behind RBI hits of Ahern and Stocking. Moreover, Epstein got outstanding play from his team with several web gem type highlight plays handed in by Noah Gaffen in center field and Sage Bruhl at shortstop. While it is an infrequent occurrence for GBN to best New Trier in baseball contests, this group of boys have always played them tough and seem to have knack for shutting them down. Although last year New Trier was able to come from behind and beat the Spartans in the late innings of a the contest. The GBN sophomores face off against Evanston Saturday again as they take their 5-0 conference record in and hope to stay perfect.
