Submitted by Scott Margolin

The Spartans (25-11), the No. 2 seed in the Class 4A Glenbrook South Sectional, cruised past Buffalo Grove in the Stevenson Regional semifinals Wednesday behind a strong pitching performance by winning pitcher Bradley Margolin (7 innings pitched, 2 strikeouts, 1 walk, 6 hits, 1 run) and all around good hitting. Brad Ruchman (3 for 4, 1 run scored), Jason Scholl (2 for 2, double, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, 2 walks), Margolin (1 for 3, 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases, 1 walk),  T.J. Tedeschi (2 for 4, double, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI), John Boidanis (1 for 3, 1 RBI) and Jake Melnick (2 stolen bases) all contributed offensively for GBN.
The Spartans came out strong in quick in the first inning with a single by Ruchman followed by a Sacrafice bunt by Margolin.  Jason Scholl then blasted a double over the Center Fielders head to score Ruchman for the first run of the game.
Then in the 3rd inning the Spartans bats again came to life.  Seven straight batters reached base  including singles by Ruchman, Margolin, Scholl, Tedeschi, Brandeisky and double by John Boidanis as the Spartans added 4 more runs to take a 5-0 lead.
Margolin and David Nyren both reached base in the 4th and scored two more runs as the Spartans continued to increase their lead as the Bisons scored their only run in the bottom of the 4th.
The Spartans added 3 more runs in the 6th inning as Scholl, Tedeschi, and John Boidanis crossed the plate on a double by Tedeschi and two passed balls.
The GBN Varsity team continued their playoffs on Saturday against Stevenson.
