G4G SPORTS - The Importance of Hydration
Hydration is the consumption of water or liquids to properly execute the replenishment of lost fluids in the body from exercise or daily routine. During intense cardiovascular fitness it is not uncommon to lose 1-2 quarts of fluid an hour and without attention to replenished resources, athletes can become fatigued, developed muscle spasms, and become injured. In extreme cases with additional heat beyond normal levels, death may even result when the body cannot effectively cool itself.
Hydration efforts are most effective with clean water and small amounts of a quality sport powder along with fresh squeezed lemon or orange juice. Many sports drinks are excessively laden with sugar and artifical dyes making them useless and possibly damaging to the athletes.
In addtion, use of a high grade magnesium supplement such as magnesium glycinate or citrate is also helpful to reduce muscle spasms and increase athletic ability.
