80-Year-Old Sends Thousands to Lottery Scam
The resident sent $16,000 at the request of two individuals before her winnings could be sent.
An 80-year-old resident was duped into sending $16,000 to a lottery scam. Two different individuals were requesting she send the money before they could hand over her winnings, according to a police report filed on March 18.
“It sounds like it was one of those mail scams that you win and you call this number,” said Michael Shep, supervisor of community relations for the Northbrook Police Department. Shep did not know the location of where the money was sent but said there is a pending investigation. When it comes to recouping the money, Shep says it depends on where the money was mailed.
