UPDATE: Thousands Still Without Power in Northbrook Thursday, Full Restoration Expected By Midnight Friday

Agency works to restore power to the more than 400,000 customers who lost electricity in its service area.

Restoring power to ComEd's northern region, including Northbrook, could be a multiple-day effort due to the extent of the damage, according to ComEd.

Power is expected to be restored to 90 percent of ComEd's service region by midnight Thursday, June 23, according to agency spokesperson Alicia Zatkowski. ComEd predicts the remaining 10 percent will be completed by midnight Friday, June 24.

On Wednesday morning, the village reported that approximately 5,700 ComEd customers in Northbrook were without power. By Thursday at 5 p.m., the village was reporting that 3,800 were still without power. That number by Friday morning. Outages included shopping centers and traffic lights in the center of town, creating stop and go traffic for motorists on Shermer Road, among other headaches.

Zatkowski said ComEd crews prioritize power outages that are critical to public safety first, including police, fire and hospitals. Next, crews tackle power outages that affect the greatest number of customers.

"One of the challenges with this storm were there were many individual outages," she said.

On Friday morning, more than 800 crews were out working to restore power, according to the agency.

The village advises residents to call ComEd at 1-800-EDISON-1 to report power outages and to call 911 to report downed power lines.
