Flood Advisory In Effect For Cook County

Watch out for pooling water on underpasses and viaducts.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood advisory for Cook County as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms move through the area Wednesday morning.

Police radio traffic indicates several locations in Northbrook are already experiencing flooding, including the underpass at Cherry Lane and Meadow Road and the one at Willow and Shermer roads. 

The flood advisory remains in effect through 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. As of 9:30 a.m., the NWS was estimating that 1 to 2 inches of rain had already fallen and that rainfall rates could rise to 1 to 2 inches per hour as stronger storms move through the area.

The NWS advises to watch out for minor flooding along small streams, viaducts and underpasses. 

While the storms are expected to clear up midday, a second line of thunderstorms is predicted for this afternoon, according to the NWS.
