PHOTOS: The Carnival Comes To Town

Families fill the Village Green for the first night of Northbrook Days, the annual summer celebration.

Children shriek from 25 feet in the air, the engines of carnival rides groan and a band warms up on the .

The village's biggest festival of the year opened Wednesday night, featuring rides, games, live music, and food from local restaurants. Open through Sunday, the celebration is put on by the all-volunteer .

"The first day is going phenomenally well," said member Mike Morgan. "The sun is shining; the park is full."

Proceeds from the event benefit local nonprofits and community organizations, including the , Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the . An additional $30,000 in scholarships is distributed to graduating Northbrook seniors every year.
