Storm Update: 2,100 Northbrook residents still without power

Outages caused by Monday's thunderstorm are the second worst in ComEd's history

Approximately 2,100 ComEd customers are still without power in Northbrook, down from a peak of 3,642 after a morning’s storm brought 70 mph winds and a quarter inch of rain through the village.

At the height of the outages 760,000 Chicago-area customers were without power. According to the village, the storm the second worst in ComEd’s history, trailing a 1998 snow and ice storm that affected 861,000 customers.

ComEd initially deployed 418 crews to assess conditions in the field and work to restore power. According to ComEd, 204 more crews were on their way Monday afternoon.

Given the severity of the storm, ComEd has been unable to provide firm restoration times but the company has said that restoration efforts will likely take several days to complete.

Due to the significant heat and humidity predicted tonight and tomorrow, Northbrook staff have called numerous hotels in the area to determine availabilities. All Northbrook, Deerfield and Glenview hotels are full for July 11, though staff have found available rooms in surrounding communities and the list is posted at www.northbrook.il.us/AreaLodging.

The Village encourages residents to reach out to family and friends in the community and provide assistance to those without power, especially the elderly.

Residents are advised to dial 911 in case of emergency, but not to report a power outage or to seek information about restoration times. Those calls can be directed to ComEd’s information line at 1-800-EDISON-1.

There are significant outages for Comcast and AT&T as well and customers can contact them directly by calling Comcast at 866-594-1234 or AT&T at 800-288-2020.

Public works crews will be picking up storm debris from public and private trees through Friday. Residents who wish to be placed on a list for pickup can contact the public works department at 847-272-4711. Debris should be placed at the curb with the stump end facing the street.
