Tornado Watch In Effect for Chicago Area

A tornado watch Sunday has been extended to 12 a.m. for the entire Chicago metro area.

A tornado watch, previously in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday night, has been extended to midnight for all of Cook County.

Issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), the tornado watch also includes several other counties in Illinois as well as some in Indiana. Additionally, the NWS is warning of strong thunderstorms, hail and gusting winds.

If a tornado is spotted, the NWS advises quickly taking shelter in a basement or small interior room within a sturdy structure.

Drivers should also take caution, as heavy downpours may make visibility poor and have already caused some flooding on major roads, including patches of Waukegan Road.
