VIDEO: Swim Teams Settle 40-Year-Old Score

The 1972 Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South swim teams finally put to rest a debate that was 40 years in the making

The official record books state that the swim team beat in 1972.  But you would have a hard time finding any former Titan that would agree to that statement.

For the last 40 years, members of the Glenbrook South varsity swim team have maintained they were the true winners of that dual meet.

Going into the last race of the day – the 400 freestyle relay -- GBS was trailing GBN 46-42. The Titans clearly won that race and looked to have decisively won the meet.  That is until a Glenbrook South timekeeper fell into the pool and disqualified the win. The Spartans were declared the winners.

The rivalry of technicalities continued in the 1974-75 season when Glenbrook North lost the meet against Glenbrook South during a mix-up on a medley relay line-up card.

Each team has maintained that they should have won the respective meets in which technicalities played a major role in their defeats.  So to settle the score once and for all, 14 former Titans and Spartans returned home to go head-to-head in the pool one more time at on Friday night.
