August Renoir: His World, French Fashion and Chicago Patrons
With Claire Cross as your instructor hear about the life, times and loves of this most popular artist who was appreciated early on by discerning collectors, many of whom were Chicagoans. Renoir was the least intellectual of the avant garde in the last quarter of 19th century Paris, but his works have a distinctive elegance and a timeless appeal. Explore his relationship with women's fashion as well as with others of the impressionist group, and how Renoir's working class background affected his attitudes. How and when did he become successful? Find out all this and more while viewing beautiful color slides of his paintings, some of which are currently exhibited at the Art Institute.
