(January
24, 2014) - "A multigenerational musical happening... not to be
missed!" The Battle of the Bands
is a concert spectacular produced by Chicago's newly launched Jewish arts
organization, Continuum Theater. Audiences will be treated to an eclectic
concert experience featuring more than 30 Chicago-area Jewish musicians performing
in six bands ranging from amateur to pro. The best bands will be chosen by
audience members, themselves. "This is not your run-of-the-mill
noise-a-palooza in a high school gym," says Steve Singer, Director of
Continuum's music events. “These musicians are serious about Jewish music…
and ready to rock the house,” he says. Ruby Harris and the Wavehunters,
Ovadya, the Moshe Skier Band, Rogers Park, Tum Balalaika Klezmer Band, and
the Junior Klezmer Orchestra are among some of the groups in the lineup. Special
guests will include comedienne, Caryn Bark, beatboxer Yuri Lane and Bruce
Herst. "We're thrilled to promote the creative expression of Jewish Chicagoans
through this feel-good, family event", remarks Continuum's Executive
Director, Devorah Richards. The “Battle” takes place on Saturday evening,
February 22 at the Mayer
Kaplan JCC of the Jewish Community Center of Chicago
(5050 W. Church St. in Skokie). Doors open at 8:00 pm.  The show is from 8:30 pm to 11:30pm.

Kosher food (pizza, baked desserts, and drinks) will be available for
purchase. Please note that the first half of the concert (before the
intermission) will include bands with female vocalists. Bands performing
after the intermission at 10:00 pm will not include female vocalists.
