Midwest Young Artists Holiday Concerts at Northbrook Court & Hawthorn Malls

(Highwood,
IL)
Award-winning youth music school
Midwest Young Artists (MYA) is pleased to announce the details of their annual
holiday outreach concerts in local malls. The Highwood, Illinois based
non-profit will send their Concert Orchestra and Jazz Big Band performing
ensembles to Northbrook Court and Westfield Hawthorn malls on December 7th
and 8th, respectively. These professional-sounding young musicians
will be on a mission to spread holiday cheer and goodwill through the majesty of
live performance. If you have never witnessed a fully orchestrated 100+ member
symphony in the middle of a shopping center before, this is your chance!

December 7th will be the orchestra’s day to
light up the faces of curious shoppers, under the direction of Dr. Allan Dennis.
The MYA concert orchestra, mainly comprised of area high school students, will
perform their fun, hour long holiday program at Westfield Hawthorn mall at
12:30pm. The ensemble will pack up and move onward to Northbrook Court for two
performances, from 2:30-4:30pm. MYA ensembles have been performing this mall
circuit in one form or another for several years. What never fails is the
sheer delight shown by the families and onlookers that take a few moments to
rest their retail-weary feet and take in a fantastic performance by the
dedicated musicians from this “secret of the North Shore” youth ensemble
program. Singing along is encouraged!

The Jazz program at Midwest Young Artists, directed by
Northwestern Jazz Studies faculty Chris Madsen, will field their Big Band jazz
ensemble for the December 8th mall concerts. The ensemble is also
comprised of high school jazz musicians from area towns, who come to the MYA
center on Sundays to rehearse for this immersive jazz program. The Big Band
will perform at Northbrook Court (by Macys, lower level) from 1:30-3:30pm in
two shows, then to Westfield, Hawthorn mall for a 4:30 performance. The MYA
jazz program is supported by the C. Louis Meyer Family Foundation and MYA
enjoys grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Illinois Arts
Council, along with private and corporate donations.
