Nelson Mandela's South Africa

Britain
had established colonial roots in South Africa since the 17th century, where
they made the original Africans outcasts in their own country. 'Apartheid' is a
German word that means separation of races according to their skin color.
Strict State laws were ruthlessly enforced to give the British ultimate control
over the Blacks and Coloureds (mixed race). Nelson Mandela grew up in this
repressive climate of strict White domination. His civil and political activism
landed him in harsh jails for 27 years in Cape Town and Johannesburg. With
increasing internal race riots and international pressure, Mandela was released
in 1991 to become South Africa's first democratically elected President. Bill
Helmuth takes you through this amazingly beautiful and rich country that still
struggles with the long time challenges of nation-building, severe economic
issues, and civil unrest to explore Nelson Mandela's influential legacy.
