World War I: The Great War?

World War I was great only in the sense of its scope - all six inhabited continents were involved. Professor Gary Midkiff will discuss why the war did not have to be fought, yet all major European powers staked their futures on military success. Trench warfare and poison gas were invented during the conflict, and when the war was over, seeds were planted to assure another one. Registration is $18 member; $22 non-member.
