Glenbrook North Saves Thousands With Energy Efficiency

District 225 has implemented grant-funded studies to help reduce overall energy consumption during the 2012-13 school year, according to a press release. The district expects to save more than $88,000 annually with changes suggested by retro-commission studies.

“While the retro-commissioning reports cited our routine maintenance as some of the best they’ve seen, they also produced a number of simple recommendations to further enhance our efficiency,” D225 Superintendent Dr. Mike Riggle said in the press release. “By reducing energy consumption, we save money and help improve the environment.”

At Glenbrook North, eight recommended actions that will cost $31,300 to implement are expected to save $69,515 annually, according to the release. Many of the changes are centering around the school's swimming pool area.

At Glenbrook South, implementation is underway on four recommended actions that will cost about $10,000 but save about $19,098 annually, according to the release. The cost-saving actions at GBS focus on the school's ventilation system and temperature settings.

The district conducted the energy efficiency study in spring 2012. It was funded by a $50,000 grant for each school.
