Northbrook Trustees Want State to Drop Speed Limit on Waukegan Road

Trustees want to decrease the speed limit on Waukegan Road from 40 mph to 30 mph, Chicago Tribune reported.

Northbrook trustees say they want the state to drop the speed limit on Waukegan Road from 40 mph to 30 mph when it approaches downtown Northbrook after a resident expressed concern at a village meeting, Chicago Tribune reported.

Northbrook mom Sheila Czajka, who lives near the intersection of Shermer and Waukegan roads, told trustees that the speed limit on Waukegan Road is decreased to 30 mph when it approaches downtown Deerfield and Glenview but stays at 40 mph in downtown Northbrook, and that she feels uncomfortable letting her 10-year-old son cross Waukegan Road alone, Chicago Tribune reported.

So the trustees take this action based on the complaint of only one person? Dropping the speed limit will only make the road more congested because cars will be in the area for a longer time. I doubt she will be any more comfortable with a lower speed limit. There is already a traffic signal at that intersection bringing the speed of vehicles to zero so people can cross safely.

Maybe she should teach her child to use the cross walk during the correct signal or better yet cross with her child.

I support Sheila! I live on Shermer and between the extra traffic on Shermer due to construction on Lake Cook and Willow and the people flying down Waukegan, I am even scared to let my little ones play on the sidewalk. Sheila's son was hit by a car driven by a babysitter coming out of Timber Lane last year. People shouldn't be afraid to cross the streets in this town.
