Reusing Northbrook's 150-Year-Old Tree
A red oak heritage tree on Wendy Drive could come down soon for the construction of a new home.
A 150-year-old red oak tree on the 1300 block of Wendy Drive in Northbrook could come down during the construction of a single-family house nearby, the Chicago Tribune reports. This would be the first heritage tree removal since 2006.
The house's contractor says he will likely harvest the tree for use in the new house, "to promote green building," according to the Chicago Tribune. The tree had been previously damaged due to storms and the village would charge $8,000 to remove the red oak, using those funds to plant future parkway trees.
