Despite frigid winds and grey skies, Michelle Brown and her two-year-old son, Owen, were out sledding at Friday morning.
Brown, who had spent the morning inside with her kids, said the excursion was a welcome break for her and her son.
"He needs to get out!" she laughed.
Snow began falling late on Thursday, and by Friday afternoon, roughly 4 inches blanketed Northbrook, according to the National Weather Service. Scattered snow showers were forecast into the afternoon, with a 50 percent chance of precipitation.
