This Weird Experiment Works Because It's Freezing on the North Shore

What happens when you throw boiling water into extremely cold air?

This is what happens when you expose boiling water to extreme cold. This video was shot in Skokie, where it is currently -13 degrees.

Dr. Ainissa Ramirez, a scientist and author, explains that the hot water instantly freezes and turns to small ice crystals when it's exposed to very cold air, according to Huffington Post.

"The same can happen if you toss out water from a cup from the ledge of the building. The people below will never feel it, because the water will freeze on the way down (to something like snow)," Ramirez wrote in an email to The Huffington Post.

Try this experiment with your family while you're cooped up in the house today!

Just make sure you're not standing with the wind coming AT you or the boiling water will come at you as well. There's a few articles out there about the number of people in the last day or so who've burned themselves like crazy trying to do this.

I have watched 3 newscast (GMA, Fox Philly & Action News) this morning showing this video and after each showing EVERY weather person said "DO NOT DO THIS, IT IS SO DANGEROUS"!!!!! One recommended doing it was a super soaker so you can direct the water away from you. Again, DO NOT DO THIS, a change in wind could bring the boiling water right back at you before it is frozen!!!!!

This is irresponsible journalism. A cursory internet check returns page after page of people winding up with serious burns. Don't be stupid.
