West Nile Virus Found in Northbrook

Mosquito batches in Northbrook tested positive for West Nile virus.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) has found West Nile virus positive mosquitoes in Northbrook.

A pool of mosquitoes collected on July 24 initially tested negative in the lab and was sent to the Illinois Natural History Survey for additional testing, which indicated the sample was positive for West Nile virus, according to the NSMAD's website.

Current test results from NSMAD

The NSMAD reminds residents to protect themselves by avoiding outdoor activity between dawn and dusk, covering exposed skin with loose fitting, light colored clothing and wearing repellent. Residents should also check around their homes and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sources particularly any items that can hold water. If it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes.
