Well in a surprising move this thursday DOMONICK'S owner SAFEWAY said they want to leave the CHICAGO market because they are loosing profit to TARGET, WALMART, MARIANO'S, etc.
Although I disagree its still sad to see them go after many years of being a loyal customer despite the problems they had. There were some news reports and a few websites saying they sell outdated or expired products.
And I saw it with my own eyes one day at THE GLEN in GLENVIEW IL when I saw a lady complaining of the very same. I couldn't believe my eyes. Milk , cheese, whip cream, and other items had already expired and were still shelved.

But what store doesn't have issues. Lots here in INTERNET LANDIA complain. JEWEL has horrible produce. And WHOLE FOODS, SUNSET FOODS are very expensive. So nobody's perfect. Although the move out for DOMONICK'S announced on thursday was quite a shock to many including me. So what now? Not really sure.
Well 4 locations have already been bought. 1 in THE GLEN in GLENVIEW IL, 1 in HOMER GLEN, and 2 in CHICAGO. But what about the rest?

CINCINNATI based chain KROGER has expressed an interest in 15 locations and plans to put FOOD FOR LESS banners on all of them. MARIONOS also expressed interest in 10 locations. And JEWEL parent company ALBERTSONS plans to buy some also in addition to the 4 already mentioned.
No word on what the rest will be. According to a FOX article I found some may be subdivided into health clubs or other shops.
