Given the choice of local favorites , , and , readers overwhelmingly voted for Dairy Queen in . The ice cream shop famous for its Blizzards took 68 percent of the vote, or 72 of the 150 votes cast. Runner up was newcomer Yogen Fruz, with 24 votes.
Owned by the Schubert family for the past 38 years, readers say they love Dairy Queen for its friendly atmosphere, kids' activities, and of course, its frozen treats.

"Northbrook DQ has more than just the amazing ice cream," commented Nicholas Butler. "They have multiple "extras" such as bouncy house Tuesdays, Patty the face painter Mondays, and Parky the clown Thursdays! Family time is always better with a little face paint, and some DQ soft serve!!"
