Sandy Frum Returns From Cattle Herding Vacation

Northbrook's Village President Sandy Frum returned from a week-long vacation on Monday. She was herding cattle in Colorado.

"Every year for the last 30 years, we go to a ranch and move cattle," Frum said. "It's very nice to be in the middle of nowhere and be in nature."

The tradition first started as summer trip to entertain her kids in the summer. But even after the kids grew out of summer vacations, Frum and her husband Carlos have taken the trip to the Lost Valley Ranch, a dude ranch in Pike's National Forest.

This year, Sandy and Carlos were joined by their daughter, who lives in Colorado, and together they did an all day ride program. Essentially, they were on horses all day, finding and moving cows. 

"The only place I ride is out there," Frum said. "Am I a major horse woman? Absolutely not. Do I have respect for horses? Yeah."

The ranch is located in an area that burned during forest fires over the years, including a severe fire about 10 years ago. But Frum says the views are still breathtaking and the landscape is always changing.  

"It's just another side of me, it's really special."
