Northbrook 12U Green Scores Cooperstown Success

The boys of Northbrook 12U Green baseball capped off a winning season with an impressive showing at Cooperstown Dreams Park in Cooperstown, N.Y. last month.

In a weeklong tournament filed with regional and multi-state all-star teams, Northbrook 12U Green finished 4-2 in pool play, ranking 33rd out of 104 teams before entering the single elimination tournament.  The team won one tournament game before losing its second game to a tough Julington Creek (Fla.) Cobras team that subsequently defeated the No. 1 seed.

In pool play the Spartans defeated the Bay Shore (N.Y.) Marauders 7-6, the Mendham (N.J.) Generals 28-6, the Utah Monarchs 8-4 and the Lakeville (Minn.) Wildcats 9-2.

With its strong Cooperstown showing, the team finished the season 36-9.  The boys won the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League's 12A division regular season championship, Glenview's Jim Christ Memorial/Neighbors Helping Neighbors tournament, the Northbrook Fourth of July tournament and the Mount Prospect Best in Baseball tournament.

Northbrook Green is made up exclusively of Northbrook boys who play in the Northbrook Baseball house league before the travel season begins.  The team includes Evan Barnes, Ben Boeke, Brandon Coleman, Jackson Duncan, Jack Garibaldi, Ben Harkey, Jimmy Karfis, Chris Niswonger, David Rubin, Daniel Spencer, Ryan Veith and Nick Woloszyn.  Northbrook Green's head coach is Stuart Spiegel, and he is assisted by Gus Locallo, Howard Goldberg, Jimmy Karfis, and Larry Rubin.
