NORTHBROOK CHARITY BRINGS SPORT TO AFRICA

Traveling to Kenya is a daunting journey requiring nearly a full day of travel and crossing nine hours of time zones before finally arriving in the distant East African country situated on the equatorial line on the Indan Ocean.  Although the journey is long, the warm greetings and loving smiles provided by the friendly people and children of this region always make it a tremendous pleasure for me to travel and share our resources.

In the past two years, I have undertaken a charitable effort to spread the love and passions we have for sports in America with children in Kenya and other areas of the world.  Developing a sports project called Gear for Goals (G4G for short), we have successfully delivered sports gear to 30,000 children in 15 countries since inception in 2012.  One of the highlights for me has been the resources and education in sport we have given while in Kenya.

Last year we introduced the game of baseball for the first time to children in some of the poorest and most under resourced areas on the planet.  The hunger and desire was immense for these children as they practiced and worked to learn this new game.  Somehow, they instinctively knew as I have come to recognize that sport and athleticism are commodities and if a child can develop his body as well as his mind he is far more likely to succeed.  However, many children do not have active resource to the necessary sports equipment or instruction required.  But that is all changing now with Northbrook based Dreamweaver International's Gear for Goals Project.  Now our gently used and new sports gear is finding it's way into the hands of countless children around the world.

In Kenya we have partnered with local officials to even build the FIRST BASEBALL FIELD near Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Soon in the shadows of Mt. Kilimanjaro, children will toss a baseball, hit for extra bases, and enjoy the past time we have come to adore in America.  The possibility even exist that a boy or girl may even one day be able to secure a trip to America to compete and display their God given talent.
