Get Ready for Y Summer Classes! The summer Program Guide is now posted online, full of classes to keep the whole family busy and active. Member registration opens May 17, non-member on May 25. Taste of Asia, May 18. The Northbrook Community Relations Commission will present its annual Taste of Asia festival at the North Suburban Y on Sunday, May 18 from 12:30 to 4:00pm. Delicious food, eclectic art, and exciting live music and dance performances make this a day to remember! Free admission open to all. Women’s Health Week, May 12-16. Visit the Y this week for special programs and surprises! Schedule includes: Monday, 9am –Cardio Party with snacks from Whole Foods; Tuesday, Body Fat and Waist Circumference Testing; Wednesday, Free Blood Pressure Tests; Thursday and Friday, Free Massages from Align Wellness. Community Gallery for May. The YMCA’s Community Gallery welcomes artists Vance Wan and Jan Keller Schultz for a month-long exhibit inspired by traditional Asian styles of artwork. Their work will be on display throughout May. Artwork is available for purchase, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the North Suburban Y. Substance Abuse Workshop, May 6. Family Service Center presents "Substance Abuse Prevention, What Every Family Needs to Know", Tuesday, May 6 at 6:30 PM. The free event will be held at the Wilmette Public Library and is sponsored by Family Service Center, North Suburban YMCA, NCDAA, and Wilmette Police Department.

Kindergarten Club registration open for Fall 2014. Do you have a child in half-day kindergarten? Enrich their experience with the Y’s Kindergarten Club extension program! Kindergarten Club creates a fun, full-day experience to support your child’s social and academic development. Afternoon sessions are available, including transportation to/from public schools in Northbrook  as well as St. Norbert’s. Hot lunches, snacks, and even swim lessons are all included! Men’s Basketball League Starts Soon—Register by May 22. Grab some friends and register your team for the Y’s Adult Men’s Basketball League. The season runs for eight games plus playoffs, with a cash prize to the champion team. Maximum of 10 players per team, ages 18 and older. Registration fee is $500/team, due by May 22. Women’s Self Defense Class. This spring, learn practical self defense skills in a safe, comfortable environment. Kids Ride to the Y. Simplify your life – let the Y Bus pick up your kids after school and bring them to their Y classes! Transportation is available for a small fee from elementary and middle schools in Northbrook and Glenview. Contact Shannon Cartier at scartier@nsymca.org for more information.

Exercise Connection, a leader in physical fitness training for individuals with special needs, now offers a fitness course for youth and adults with autism spectrum disorders at the North Suburban Y. Classes focus on core skills including body image, posture, motor coordination, muscular fitness and cardiovascular fitness.  Northbrook resident and Director in Training for the Exercise Connection, Laura Fine will lead the class. Ready for a Break? The Y is proud to offer professional massage services from Align Wellness Center. Appointments are available for 25 minute or 55 minute sessions in our comfortable Health Center, adjacent to our adult locker rooms. Sign up for appointments at the Y front desk.
