Area Man Dies After Falling into Pit, Funeral Friday

Neal Pagano, 46, was pronounced dead at his home in Glenview on Sunday morning.

Neal Pagano, 46, died at his Glenview home on Sunday, according to police. He died after falling into a fire pit, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Pagano was found by two of his children lying in their backyard, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, Pagano's cause of death is a spinal fracture, incurred when he fell into the pit. They have classified the death as an accident.

"It's not suspicious in nature but we're not sure why he died, so it's still an open investigation," said Sgt. Jim Foley of the Glenview Police Department. Foley confirmed that Pagano was found by a juvenile.

The pit had not been used for a fire around the time of the accident, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 18 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet for funeral mass Friday, Oct. 19 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1775 Grove St., Glenview, IL.
