3 From North Suburbs Arrested For Pointing Laser At Police Helicopter

A Northbrook man, Skokie man and Winnetka man were charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

After they allegedly pointed a laser beam at a police helicopter, three men from the north suburbs were arrested Saturday night in Chicago.

Police charged Alvin Kang, 25, of Northbrook; Jeremy A. Smith, 24, of Skokie; and Mark P. Lawrence, 25, of Winnetka, with unlawful use of a weapon, a misdemeanor offense, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A Chicago Police Department helicopter was hovering above the Old Town Triangle neighborhood around 9:50 p.m. Saturday, June 18, when a green laser suddenly shone in their faces, the Tribune reports.

The crew used night vision glasses to pinpoint the source of the laser, which was coming from a building in the 400 block of West Menomonee Street. Officers found Kang, Smith and Lawrence on the roof and then arrested them, according to the Tribune.
