Northbrook Driver Kills 90-Year-Old Woman in Parking Lot Crash

The victim was using a walker to cross a grocery store parking lot.

A 90-year-old Arlington Heights woman died Friday after being hit by a car driven by an 88-year-old Northbrook woman in a Mount Prospect Jewel-Osco parking lot, according to the Daily Herald. 

Harriet S. Abernethy-Ogorzalek used a walker as she crossed the parking lot in a marked pedestrian crossing lane in Mount Prospect when the crash happened about 2 p.m. Friday, according to the article. 

Abernethy-Ogorzalek, of the 800 block of East Central Avenue in Arlington Heights, was pronounced dead at 5:19 p.m., according to the Chicago Tribune. 

The Northbrook woman was not injured in the crash, according to the article.

So sad, but she probably shouldn't have been driving.

You must be confused. The pedestrian died. She was 90. But, you're right, theres no way the 88 yr old could be a competent, safe driver.

Why is an 88 year old person allowed to drive?!! That's an accident waiting to happen.
