Blotter: 17-Year-Old Gets DUI, Robbery On Church Street

17-Year-Old Gets DUI

A 17-year-old boy from Northbrook was stopped for a traffic violation Monday, Nov. 3, in the 2300 block of Cherry Lane. Police said he appeared to be under the influence. He was arrested, transported to Glenbrook Hospital for testing and ultimately charged with speeding, failing to wear a seatbelt and driving under the influence.

Tom Vabakos, 53, of Northbrook, was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested Saturday, Nov. 1, in the 1400 block of Landwehr Road, according to police. After an officer reported discovering a Walther PPK-S9MM pistol in the center console of his vehicle, he was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, driving with a suspended license, driving with expired registration and driving with suspended registration.

John O. Bernard, 19, of Lake Forest, was arrested at Shermer and Illinois roads Wednesday, Nov. 5, and charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance, according to police. 

Robbery On Church Street

A young man opened the passenger door of a woman’s car and took her purse, which was lying on the seat, than ran away through the parking lot in the 1100 block of Church Street Tuesday, Nov. 4, according to police.  

Forgery, Theft and Financial Institution Fraud

Sarah L. Wood, 30, of Gurnee, was arrested Monday, Oct. 31, and charged with felony counts of theft and forgery and a misdemeanor count of financial institution fraud, according to police.

Possession of Marijuana

A 15-year-old boy from Northbrook was issued a local ordinance ticket for possession of cannabis after an officer reported smelling the odor of burnt cannabis while talking to the teen at Shermer Road and Oak venue Wednesday, Nov. 5, according to police.

Ruse Burglary on York Court

A home was burglarized Sunday, Nov. 2, in the 700 block of York Court after a man came to the door claiming to be a ComEd contractor. He asked the resident to let him see her fuse box, saying he was looking into a power outage in the area. While looking at her fuse box, he claimed he was on the phone with ComEd.  He then asked the resident if she had an alarm system. When she said no, he left on foot. Police later discovered that jewelry had been stolen from the resident’s bedroom. 

$1,400 in Cologne Swiped From Abercrombie & Fitch

Someone stole 27 bottles of cologne, worth $1,458, from the store at on Wednesday, Nov. 5, according to police. 

Retail Theft In Willow Road Shopping Center

Lolita R. Loyd, 44, of Chicago, was arrested Monday, Oct. 31, in the 800 block of Willow Road and charged with retail theft, according to police. 

Two Cars Burglarized on Kiest

The front passenger side window was broken and an Escort radar detector worth about $150 was stolen from a car parked in the 1900 block of Kiest Road sometime between Sunday, Nov. 2, and Monday, Nov. 3, according to police.

Another car in the 1900 block of Kiest Road was also burglarized around the same day, according to police. Someone broke the passenger side window and stole a wallet with two credit cards. The tires were punctured and slashed, causing about $1,200 in damage, and the front turn signal lenses and lights were removed, adding another $150 in damage. 

Stolen Jewelry

Several pieces of jewelry were reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Plymouth Lane, according to police. 

Road Rage Leads To Disorderly Conduct

Two drivers got into a dispute at Lake Cook Road and Pointe Drive Wednesday, Nov. 5, after one driver cut the other driver off. One driver then sounded her horn, and the other driver got out of his car and started hitting her car and windshield and yelling threats, according to police. 

Car Keyed

Someone keyed a vehicle parked in the 1500 block of Windy Hill on Monday, Oct. 31, according to police. 

Mailbox Vandalized

Someone damaged a metal mailbox between 3:30 and 4:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Glenbrook Drive Saturday, Nov. 1, according to police.
