Blotter: 3 Charged With DUI; 2 Flee Store With Laptop

The police report for March 20-28.

The items below come from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Matthew J. Putt, 21, of Glenview, was arrested March 20 at Willow and Shermer roads and charged with driving under the influence. His arrest occurred after a cell phone caller reported the incident, according to police.

Zhana Shnaydershteyn, 48, of Glencoe, was arrested March 25 at Dundee and Waukegan roads. Shnaydershteyn was charged with three counts of improper lane usage and one count of driving under the influence, according to police.

Yuriy Krutsik, 40, of Arlington Heights, was stopped March 27 for a traffic violation and arrested at Willow and Shermer roads. He was charged with making an improper turn, using lanes improperly, speeding and driving under the influence, police reported.

DRIVING WITH A REVOKED LICENSE

Arcadio Abundez-Cortes, 31, of Prospect Heights, was arrested March 26 at Skokie Boulevard and Lake Cook Road. Cortes was charged with making an improper turn, driving without a valid license and driving with a revoked license, according to police.

DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE

Robert K. Collins III, 22, of LaGrange Park, was stopped March 23 for a traffic violation and arrested at Landwehr Road and Walters Avenue, according to police. He was charged with driving with expired registration, driving under a suspended license, driving without insurance, driving without a mirror and transporting alcohol illegally, police reported.

Nicola E. Somo, 48, of Skokie, was arrested March 26 at Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard. Somo was charged with failing to signal and driving with a suspended license, police reported.

Carrie L. Schaudt, 30, of Northbrook, was stopped March 25 for a traffic violation and arrested at Midway and Dundee roads. She was charged with making an improper turn, driving with an expired registration, driving with a suspended registration, driving without insurance and driving with a suspended license, according to police.

RETAIL THEFT AT 4 STORES

A 17-year-old girl from Deerfield was arrested and charged with retail theft at Nordstrom Rack on March 24 after police recognized her as someone who had been involved in suspicious activity. Loss prevention officers watched her via video cameras, which showed her taking items from the juniors and women departments, removing the tags and then hiding the items in her purse. She left the store with eight items valued at $116.17 but was taken into custody soon afterward, according to police.

A silver lady bug charm key chain, multicolored flower key chain and small silver cupcake key chain were reported missing from the Coach store at Northbrook Court, according to police. The items were valued at $144.

Svetlana Stetsuk, 28, of Arlington Heights, was arrested March 25 at Lord & Taylor and charged with retail theft. She allegedly switched the tags on an item so to pay a lower price, according to police.

Two men removed a Sony laptop valued at $799 from the Best Buy on Willow Road and took off in a white vehicle March 26, according to police.

LETTERS AMONG STOLEN ITEMS

A resident of Lakeside Avenue reported that letters were stolen from her mailbox on March 22, according to police. She said that she heard the mail truck go by and saw letters and a newspaper in her mailbox across the street from her home. But when she went to get her mail, the letters were missing, she told police.

A student reported that while she was playing in an orchestra concert on March 24, her iPod Touch was stolen from her violin case that was in the practice room. Another student also reported a stolen iPod Touch--taken from her coat in the same room--during the same concert, according to police.

A man reported that his flash drive was stolen March 24 from near his laptop sitting on the bar at Buffalo Wild Wings. He told police that the laptop and memory card were left at the bar while he went to the bathroom.

A woman reported that the rear passenger window of her car was smashed while it was parked at the YMCA on Techny Road on March 27, according to police. Her purse was also removed from the back seat. The brown leather courier bag contained identification cards, several credit cards and cash. Police estimated the total loss at $550.

THREE-EYED SMILEY FACE GRAFFITI

An officer discovered that the word “SUPRA” was drawn beneath a burning cigarette and a three-eyed smiley face on posts in the picnic area near the skate bowl at Techny Park. Police found and photographed the vandalism on March 22.
