Blotter: 7 DUI Arrests, 2 Businesses Burglarized

The police report occurred from Aug. 20-28.

The items below came from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 Driving Under the Influence

Franklin Lloyd Charness, 18, of Highland Park, was arrested Aug. 25 at Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard and charged with failing to reduce speed and  driving under the influence, according to police.

Shane M. Stolarik, 47, of Rolling Meadows, was arrested Aug. 26 at Salceda Drive and Willow Road and charged with speeding and driving under the influence, according to police.

Marco A. Camacho, 50, of Blue Island, was arrested Aug. 27 at Dundee Road and Bittersweet Drive and charged with driving under the influence. He was also cited for two counts of improper lane usage and failure to dim his headlights, according to police.

Mark Stephen Chan, 29, of Northbrook, was arrested Aug. 27 at Pfingsten and Koepke roads and charged with speeding, improper lane usage and driving under the influence, according to police.

Michael K. Shmarak, 41, of Northbrook, was arrested Aug. 28 at Shermer and Brentwood roads and charged with improper lane usage and driving under the influence, according to police.

Leah J. Thomas, 42, of Arlington Heights, was arrested Aug. 28 at Waukegan and Voltz roads and charged with driving under the influence and improper lane usage, according to police.

Brenda Mares, 30, of Chicago, was arrested Aug. 28 at Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard and charged with driving under the influence, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage, according to police.

Business Burglaries

A rear door lock and frame were damaged and a box containing $60 in coins was stolen from  during the night of Aug. 23, according to police. Damage was estimated at $300.

 was burglarized and cash was stolen from the register during the night of Aug. 21, according to police.

$4,800 Charged After Wallet Stolen

A woman noticed that her wallet went missing from her purse while she was shopping at Village Square Shopping Center on Skokie Boulevard on Aug. 21, according to police. Inside the wallet, the woman reported that she had $60 in cash, credit and debit cards, and a drivers’ license. When she contacted her credit card companies, she found out that $4,800 in unauthorized purchases were made to the accounts. 

Teens Arrested for Underage Drinking

Two 16-year-old boys from Northbrook were cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor after an officer stopped them at Hawthorne and Crabtree lanes on Aug. 22 and smelled alcohol on their breath. One teen was also issued a ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia, police reported.

Drug Possession

A 17-year-old from Northbrook was cited for speeding, disobeying a stop sign, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol after he was stopped by police for a traffic violation at Pfingsten Road and Manor Drive.

Kayla Epstein, 54, of Northbrook, was stopped for a traffic violation Aug. 23 on Skokie Boulevard when an officer smelled cannabis coming from her car, according to police. She was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched her purse and car.

Suspended Driver’s Licenses

Abel Uniostegui, 58, of Prospect Heights, was charged with driving with a suspended license and arrested at Dundee Road and Anthony Trail on Aug. 23, according to police.

Brian K. Gibson, 27, of Calumet City, was arrested Aug. 25, at Dundee Road and Western Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance, according to police.

Revoked Driver’s License

Vannevar Montesinos, 25, of Wheeling, was arrested at Willow and Pfingsten roads on Aug. 23 and charged with driving with a revoked license, according to police.

Misael Huerta-Cordova, 41, of Wheeling, was arrested at Willow and Pfingsten roads on Aug. 25 and charged with driving with a revoked license and disobeying a traffic control device, according to police.

Property Thefts

A bike worth about $160 was stolen from an unlocked garage on Oak Avenue between Aug. 16, and 20, according to police.

A man reported that his son’s iPhone was stolen while he was at the skate park at Techny Prairie Park on Aug. 22, according to police.

A resident of Buttonwood Drive reported that an engagement ring and a pair of diamond earrings, valued at $28,000, went missing about a month ago.

An iPhone worth $600 was stolen from a store on Skokie Boulevard near Lake Cook Road on Aug. 25, according to police.

The front and back license plates were stolen from car parked along Lake Cook Road near Waukegan Road on Aug. 25, according to police.

An antique French wax seal worth $400 went missing during an estate sale on El Cid Lane on Aug. 24, according to police.

Several tools were stolen from a vehicle parked on Scott Road Monday, Aug. 22, according to police. The loss was estimated at $350. 

Stolen Catalytic Converters

A catalytic converter was stolen from a van parked behind a business on Woodhead Drive from Aug. 20-21, according to police.

Catalytic converters were also removed from two trucks parked at the dock area of a business on Commercial Avenue between Aug. 18 and 22, according to police. 

Property Vandalized

Someone pulled nearly 10 flowers out of a flowerbed on the east side of Williamsburg Park before Aug. 26, according to police.

A driveway marker was thrown through an upper front window of a home on Walters Avenue on Aug. 22, according to police.
